The Price is Right host Drew Carey is subpoenaed to testify in the murder trial of his ex-fiancée Amie Harwick who was killed after being thrown from her third floor balcony

  • Sex therapist Harwick, 38, was killed in her Los Angeles home in February 2018
  • Her ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse, 44, is accused of the murder
  • Carey's name appears on the defense's list of witnesses

The Price is Right host Drew Carey has been subpoenaed to testify in the murder trial of his ex-fiancée Amie Harwick, according to a new report.

The comedian, 65, was engaged to Hollywood sex therapist Harwick, 38, in 2018 - and he had a text exchange with her just two days before she was thrown off her third-floor balcony in February, 2020.

Gareth Pursehouse, 44, is accused of killing Carey, who he had dated a decade prior. After they broke up in 2011, Harwick got a protective order against him and told friends she was afraid of him.

While Pursehouse's name is on the defense's witness list, it's not clear if he will actually take the stand in the trial, which is underway, as reported by NewsNation on Monday.

Prosecutors allege that Pursehouse broke into Harwick's Hollywood Hills home and waited for about four hours for her to return in an attempt to 'catch her by surprise' while he was carrying a syringe containing a 'lethal' dose of nicotine. He has pled not guilty.

Drew previously revealed he and Amie got back in touch just two days before she was tragically killed - when she messaged him to say she wanted to 'get together and talk', explaining that she had been thinking about 'forgiveness' a lot.

Speaking to CBS' 48 Hours, Drew explained that the former couple never got the chance to meet up - but he said that he has found 'solace' in their final interaction, knowing he was able to tell her he loved her one last time.

'Valentine's Day was a Friday. I got a text from her on Thursday,' he said.

An autopsy report released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner indicated that Amie was found with wounds on her hands and fingers 'consistent with a combination of defense and assault type wounds, suggestive of an altercation.'

She was also found with injuries to the head and torso and had been strangled, and the cause of death was ruled as blunt force trauma.

Harwick's restraining order against Pursehouse, had recently expired when she saw him at a pornography industry awards party run by XBIZ magazine and hosted by porn legend Stormy Daniels just one month before her death.

She was reportedly at the January 16, 2020, party due to her work for a charity providing mental health support to women in the sex industry, while Pursehouse was there working as a photographer.

While there, Pursehouse and Harwick allegedly got into an argument, as he told her that she ruined his life and called her a 'b****.'

Nearly one month later, police responded to Harwick's home on Mound Street at around 1:15 a.m., following a call by Harwick's roommate, who reported hearing screaming.

The roommate has testified that he went to the back patio with police and found Harwick 'struggling to breathe.'

Pursehouse was arrested days later at his Playa Del Rey home, released on a $2 million bail, but was re-arrested two days later and formally charged with murder and burglary.

Carey dated Harwick for two years before the pair split in 2018, months after announcing their engagement.

'I hope you're lucky enough to have someone in your life that loves as much as she did,' Carey said on Twitter in February upon learning of her death.

Harwick was a prominent Hollywood marriage and sex therapist. She appeared on TV and radio shows and wrote a book called The New Sex Bible for Women.
