It was the first truly modern royal wedding - a spectacle for a television age watched across the land, and in colour! When Princess Anne married Captain  Mark Philips in November 1973 at Westminster Abbey, they set the template for many royal marriages to come, and the public lapped it up. Anne, then 23, was at the height of her glamour while Mark Phillips, was every inch the dashing officer from the Queen's Dragoon Guards and came from a long line of military figures. Phillips, then 25, turns 75 today.

The Queen, 76, and the French First Lady, 70, looked cosy following their friendly display last night at the State Banquet at the Palace of Versailles. The pair couldn't contain their laughter (left) as they posed for photos at the French National Library as they put on an elegant display in the fashion stakes (right) on Charles and Camilla's first full day in France.

Notably Camilla did wear something British and one-colour when she arrived earlier (top left) - a pink coat dress by Fiona Clare; Brigitte wore a Saint Laurent suit. Among the celebrity guests, Mick Jagger's partner Melanie Hamrick chose London designer Jenny Packham (inset); actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, Saint Laurent (right).

Edo, 39, posted a photo on Instagram of the daughter he shares with Princess Beatrice on her second birthday, saying she brings 'love and joy' to his life. Prince Albert, 65, took part in a litter picking exercise with Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella which had been organised by the Palace - while their mother Charlene visits family in Cape Town. The trio donned matching white baseball caps to carry out the exercise which marked World Cleanup Day. A sweet picture of a small floral tribute which had been placed at the Diamond Jubilee Cairn on the Balmoral Estate was shared on the estates official Twitter account yesterday. Her Majesty spent her final days at Balmoral before she passed away there, aged 96 on September 8, 2022.

The royal's otherwise impeccable image is often marred by the unsightly skin-coloured tape wrapped around one of her fingers or thumbs.
